This is how we buy our own horses...
This is how we buy OUR horses:
1. Contacted the seller, asked the questions, got the video.
2. Did the relevant ‘stalking’ of results and got ‘references’ to the ponies character.
3. Put all the info into a folder to sent it to the coaches on Wednesday, got the tick.
Important note - I only did this with ONE pony that we really liked, I didn’t send the coaches 5000 ads…
4. Organised a pre purchase vet checked for Friday.
Important note, had the horse been lame on flexion tests, we wouldn’t have xrayed, we would have walked away at that point.
Second important point, it’s a long way and a lot of expense to view a horse - approximately $1000-2000 per viewing. It is cheaper to do a $500 prepurchase than view and then the horse fails.
It is also better than having a heartbroken child heart and ❤️🩹 who falls in love with a pony that then fails the vet check.
It also means, if you love the pony, you can take it home on the day of the viewing and save the transport costs 🛻
5. Received vet check results on Friday night.
6. Paid the deposit - which also meant that funds would clear instantly on Sunday, if we wanted to purchase the horse.
6. Booked accommodation and drove 9 hours on Saturday - with the float on.
7. Viewed the horse on Sunday.
- Had the coaches on standby to view videos via WhatsApp
- Coaches looked at videos.
- Spoke to coaches and made a decision.
- Paid for horse and left with him in the float.
- Unloaded him at 11.30 pm.
This process took 5 days, saved a lot of potential heartbreak and a lot of potential lost time and money.
1800km in two days but we have our unicorn!
