'Holding' horses - why we don't and you shouldn't either...
Yesterday, a ‘potential viewer’ apparently had a few choice words to say about a horse not being held for them…
(The horse wasn’t being sold by us but I love a good opportunity to write down my thoughts about these scenarios…)
The most important word in this scenario is ‘potential’. People who have enquired about viewing horses are ‘potential’ viewers. These people are NOT buyers or even potential buyers.
Who has experienced the following in their life:
- plans changing
- circumstances changing
- something unforeseen happening
- changing your mind
- changing plans
Everyone raise their hands!
This is why - except for in exceptional circumstances (the ABSOLUTE PERFECT home or people sending us screenshots of non-refundable plane tickets) - we don’t hold horses. Things happen.
And while one ‘potential viewer’ changes their mind and cancels the viewing (or just doesn’t show up)…
- the seller misses a sale to a different potential (possibly fabulous!) buyer
- something happens to the horse
- the market changes
So, if you want to view the horse:
- confirm the viewing in writing
- consider offering to pay a holding deposit
- possibly vet check before viewing (that’s another blog post)
- screenshot and send tickets and hotel bookings
- and…
- get moving… as quick as you can!
This may not be possible for you. No judgment, it’s not for everyone.
But if you can’t get there in time, don’t be angry with the seller or resentful of the buyer, you were just another ‘potential cancelled viewing’ 😳 #truth
