Why refusing to fill in a form is a massive red flag...

Monday musings…

⭐️ The EOI form is there to protect - equally - the buyer, the seller and the horse. In 18 months of business, we have only had 3 (!) people decline to fill in an EOI form ⭐️

🚩When someone doesn’t want to fill in an EOI form to book a viewing or a form to sell a horse, that is a MASSIVE red flag! 🚩

Here’s why it’s a red flag and why you should have EVERYTHING in writing - whether you are a seller or a buyer!

As a seller, you need comprehensive information about a potential buyer’s circumstances, experience, ability, confidence, ability to fund the purchase and ability to care for the horse.

As a buyer, you need comprehensive information to assess whether the horse will be safe, help you to achieve your goals and whether you can care for it in the way it requires.

Conducting a viewing or selling a horse without comprehensive information is a legal, moral and ethical minefield.

Other red flags from potential buyers or sellers:

🚩 Claiming that providing information is too much work - if you have time to ride and care for a horse, you have 5 minutes to help us assess whether a horse is safe for you or for a buyer…

🚩 Claiming that a buyer or seller is asking too many personal questions… the information being provided is NOT AT ALL ‘personal’ and is only gathered to assess why the you and the horse are a safe and appropriate ‘match’.

🚩 Claiming that the value of the horse isn’t worth the ‘rigmarole’ of filling going through a proper process to buy it or sell it.

As an agent, I put the same effort into an $80k sale as an $8k sale. There’s a buyer, a seller and a horse. They aren’t less important because the horse has a lower price.

If anything, at the lower end of the market, sellers need to be even more diligent. At this end the buyers are more budget conscious, usually less experienced and the horses generally have more quirks… just another reason to protect yourself by selling through us and having a paper trail!

But feel free to go your own way, no hard feelings!
