Pec D Day Diesel is a fabulous performance horse with experience competing to 1* eventing and is training 120/130 showjumping. He is talented, well educated and athletic, with an exceptional work ethic. Diesel thrives in a competition home with a confident and experienced rider.
Background: Since his purchase in 2022, Diesel has since been agisted at Clifford Hill with Simon Tainsh and Erin Callahan. Erin rode Diesel for six months after he was purchased, to support his transition to his new rider. Simon has been schooling him for the last four months in preparation for his sale.
Education, skills and experience: Diesel has competed successfully up to 1* eventing, with his previous rider. With over 10 months of professional training since his purchase, his education has progressed and he is more than ready to start competing at that level again.
Diesel has ‘presence’ on the flat. He is light in the bridle, happy to collect and is extremely well balanced. Diesel is training lateral movements.
Diesel absolutely loves jumping! He will jump anything off any angle and any stride no matter the situation he is in. Diesel is reliable, honest and competitive on the clock. He is clever with his feet and rarely touches jumps. Diesel is known for being an overachiever - very scopey - and always puts in maximum effort even around 120 showjumping tracks. Diesel has gone CLEAR cross country at every single event, except one where, according to his previous owners, he wasn’t feeling ‘right’ and his rider retired him.
Over the last two years, his young owner has had regular lessons and taken Diesel to pony club.
General demeanor under saddle/ vices and quirks: Diesel is a young performance horse through and through - confident and happy when he is being ridden by a confident and experienced rider.
Diesel can be described as hot, forward and sensitive. He has pig rooted and jacked up when confused or tense. Diesel has never bucked or bolted.
Current workload/ fitness: Diesel is currently in work 5 days a week, with Simon Tainsh, in preparation for sale.
Handling: Diesel is safe and easy to handle - to catch, shoe, wash, saddle and load. He ties up without issue and loads, travels and unloads safely and without fuss. On the ground, he is tolerant of less experienced handlers.
Feeding and management: Diesel has lived at an agistment facility, Clifford Hill, for the last two years. He has been fed Studgro and Gastroaid. Diesel is in a fairly bare paddock as he doesn’t tolerate spring grass.
Medical history: Diesel had comprehensive xrays taken when purchased in 2022 - of his legs and back. These were clear. He does not have any medical issues and owners are happy to share xrays. They are certain that he will pass a vet check without any issues.
Rider Suitability - from his trainer, Simon Tainsh: Diesel is a bloody handy horse - with scope to burn - for top level eventing or even straight showjumping. He is, however, a forward, hot and sensitive young performance horse.
Diesel really needs an experienced 2* or 120 rider - someone who has ridden hot horses and has the knowledge and skills to train them and keep them calm.
Diesel is not, currently, a junior, young rider or amateur horse. He is, potentially, a horse that someone can produced to 3 or 4* level and, then, he may be ready to sell on to a younger or amateur rider.
Reason for sale: Diesel is very reluctantly for sale because, unfortunately, he is unsuitable for his junior rider. She was 12 at the time of purchase and is now 14. Despite extensive training of Diesel, and lessons to improve his young owner’s skills, over the last two years - she is not ready for him.
