Introduction:

Sandy is a beautiful and accomplished 1* eventer who is an absolute dream to own, handle, ride and compete. She is a beautifully put together modern warmblood type - intelligent, athletic and balanced.

Sandy has been owned, since the age of five, by her current owner. She was bred and beautifully started by Davidson Equestrian in Queensland.

Sandy’s owner is devastated to list her for sale but due to the rider’s own (completely unrelated) medical issues, she is no longer able to jump. Sandy is an eventing and showjumping machine who would be completely wasted only ‘sand dancing’!

Education, riding and experience:

Sandy has competed to 2* eventing with most of her work at 1* level. She has placed numerous times in eventing and show jumping at EA National Level as well as unofficial events.

Sandy is well educated on the flat and is a brave and bold jumper who has never stopped at a fence on cross country.

Sandy has done lots of in-hand training. She lunges on voice command.

Flat work/ dressage: Sandy is extremely calm and well mannered on the flat. She is competing novice, training Elementary. Established shoulder in, traver, counter canter and flying changes.

Jumping: Sandy has trained over 2* and 3* cross country fences. She has jumped 1.15m tracks and trained up 1.2m.

Cross Country: Do not be fooled by her size as Sandy has a ground covering stride and always makes a distance and time! She was recently cross country schooled by Megan Jones and was foot perfect!

Experiences or other skills: Sandy has been exposed to all different situations including loads of busy events, trail riding and has visited the beach. She has been happily stabled 24 hours a day in a busy city stable. Sandy is not concerned by farm life - tractors, trucks, motorbikes, livestock, dogs or other pets or the nonsense of children within her vicinity!

General demeanor under saddle: Sandy is willing and responsive to ride. Soft and light in the bridle, she willingly collects and  is tolerant of rider mistakes.

Sandy is calm and reliable in the dressage/ on the flat but is an athletic horse who can be forward and very sharp over jumps.

Current workload/ fitness: in work 5 days a week, however, she is safe to hop straight on after a spell and does not need regular riding to be safe.

Tack: Sandy is ridden in a comfort fit noseband and a snaffle. For cross country and show jumping she is ridden in a stronger bit which would come with her.

Handling

Sandy is a dream to handle on the ground and has perfect manners. She is great for the farrier, dentist and vet. Sandy is easy to catch, saddle, shoe, and wash.

Sandy happily travels on her own or in company and will stand tied up all day long at the truck or in the tie ups.

Sandy is, however, sensitive to the noise of clippers, so gets sedated to be clipped.

Behaviour

Sandy loves human company and is very smoochy.

Sandy doesn't hot up in dressage or at competitions. She has never bolted, bucked or reared. Sandy is not ‘marey’. She is generally very calm and reliable but not unflappable. Sandy is straightforward to ride 99% of the time.

Sandy can, very occasionally, be on high alert if it's very windy or she has been on too much feed. If spooked she can react but won’t unseat the rider or do anything dangerous.

Sandy can occasionally be a little horse shy in a busy and small warm up arena situation but NEVER in bigger arenas, the cross country warm up, in general riding or in open spaces.

Feeding and management

Sandy does not have any special feeding requirements. She can be paddocked alone, with others or stabled 24 hours a day.

Medical

Sandy does not have any medical issues. She is fed Epitalis as a preventative and has occasionally given ovumate in spring but this is not necessary for her management, health or safety.

Rider Suitability

For jumping, Sandy requires a capable and confident rider as she is forward moving - especially over combinations of jumps.

For dressage, Sandy is calm, novice rider’s schoolmaster.

Reason for sale

Following her owner’s spinal surgery to fuse her C4/5/6 vertebrae (not horse related) it is no longer safe for her to event or jump and she is moving into straight dressage.

Her owner says: Sandy is an absolute jumping machine who has never stopped at any fence ever. She is wasted not jumping as she absolutely loves it. She hasn't competed in eventing since my surgery as I couldn't bear to part with her and have focused on just getting back into riding. I took her to a 3 phase competition and in her 1st event placed 2nd. I would love to see a competent rider take her up the grades.
