Introduction: Wimborne Cascade is by Contenda (imp) out of Wimborne Just Jazz (Maroomba Who/Jazz Marie) an ASH X QH mare. She was the first Contenda foal bred by Wimborne Park Stud and has had a very successful career as an eventer and showjumper. Charlee presents an opportunity to buy a well educated, well exposed, talented mare at a reasonable price.
Education, skills and experience: Charlee has years of eventing and show jumping experience, up to a metre with her previous owners, and jumps up to 90cm, without issues, at home with her current owner. She has had competition success, in recent years, up to 65-70cm - including being Champion, E Grade, Zone 23 Show Jumping with two clear rounds!
Charle could potentially jump higher again, as she is so willing, with a more capable and confident rider. Charlee is the quintessential ‘careful’ showjumper who doesn’t get a lot of rails but doesn’t like to be ‘missed’ or be ridden by a tentative rider in a competition environment.
Charlee is currently competing in preliminary dressage. She collects, is balanced and well educated.
Charlee happily hacks out alone or with others. She doesn’t have separation anxiety leaving her paddock friends. Charlee is unphased by new environments. She is a confident horse on roads and on trails. Charlee is unphased by tractors, trucks, livestock and dogs.
Charlee is in a Trust Innosense snaffle on the flat and a Trust Innosense Pelham for jumping.
Current workload/ fitness: Charlee is currently in work - 5 plus times a week - and is competing.
Handling: Charlee is easy to handle - to catch, shoe, wash, saddle and load. She will calmly tie up at the stables or float all day. Charlee is confident to load with a confident handler.
Behaviour: Charlee is affectionate and is a pleasure to have around. She doesn’t need regular work to be safe under saddle and is fine to hop back on straight after a spell. Charlee is very safe and reliable with her 13 year old owner/ rider (since she was 11, when Charlee was purchased), both on the ground and in the saddle.
Charlee can be somewhat ‘marey’ - needing to be moved sideways across the stable breezeway when others are walking through but she loves being paddocked with other mares and is well behaved in this environment.
Feeding and management: Charlee is fed a simple grain-free diet, Betamare and Equilibrium Vitamin and Mineral Mix. She was given Ovumate in September to November as she was distracted but doesn’t need this for the rest of the year.
Medical history: The prepurchase exam in 2023 noted that she was a little overweight and lacked fitness across her topline. This has been addressed and has not been an issue with current owners. She is sound and always has been while in their care.
Rider Suitability: Capable Rider defined as someone who has been riding / competing regularly for at least five years, has independent hands and balanced position/ seat; can walk, trot and canter on multiple horses both young and educated. Is confident in all situations.
Reason for sale: Charlee is a well bred warmblood mare that would be perfect for a confident junior or adult rider wanting to do lower level dressage or eventing. She has been very safe for her 11 year old rider. Unfortunately, despite her family adoring her, she isn’t the ‘point and shoot’ 90cm and above schoolmaster that is needed for a 13 year old novice rider. With the purchase of a schoolmaster eventer, Charlee is looking for a new rider and a fabulous new home.
